Following repairs, the Weldon Road bridge over Route 15 is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, May 5, at 7 AM. According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), one lane will be available in each direction and all ramps to and from Route 15 will be reopened as well.
Normally the bridge carries two lanes in each direction. It was closed on December 20, 2020, because of cracks in two beams, requiring the closure of Route 15 southbound. The left lane on Route 15 southbound was reopened on December 23. The damaged portion of the bridge was removed and all lanes on Route 15 were reopened on March 7. Since then, NJDOT has completed repairs to strengthen three beams and monitored the structure to ensure its safety.
The department will continue to assess the bridge as a long-term replacement is designed. Advanced utility relocation is underway. Work is being expedited with construction expected to begin in the spring of 2022; the precise timing is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website (www.511nj.org) for construction updates and real-time travel information. Follow NJDOT on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT and Facebook.
