The girls get a little help unloading the bench.

A new “buddy bench” graces the playground at Arthur Stanlick School. It was placed there on May 6 by the fourth-grade Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 96726. According to troop leader Kim Meany, it was the Bronze Award project for the four girls: Paige Brown, Rebecca Kempe, Alayna Meany, and Ariana Schaffer.

The girls used power tools to build the bench and cooperation to choose the paint colors, said assistant leader Tammy Schaffer. Both were important lessons, she added.

Principal Kelly Cooke accepted the bench on behalf of the school, saying “the kids will cherish it for years to come and build friendships here.”

Mayor Eric Wilsusen presented the Bronze Award certificates to the girls, noting that his daughters did Silver and Gold Award projects at Stanlick School years ago.

The new bench joins another one dedicated to friendly conversation in the school yard.
